LMIA guidance for employers looking to hire foreign workers, from recruitment through approval.
A Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is a document a Canadian employer may need before hiring a foreign worker. A positive LMIA shows there is a genuine need for the worker and that no Canadian citizen or permanent resident is available to fill the role.
An employer may need an LMIA when hiring for a position that is not covered by an international agreement or other exemption, and where the role and wage meet the program's requirements.
Employers must meet wage, workplace, and compliance obligations both before and after an LMIA is approved.
Most LMIA streams require documented recruitment efforts showing the position was advertised to the Canadian labour market first.
We help employers assemble job postings, wage evidence, business documentation, and the LMIA application itself, and manage correspondence with Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) throughout the process.
Once an LMIA is approved, we help the employer and the foreign worker move forward with the corresponding work permit application, so the transition from approval to hire is coordinated and clear.
We work with employers who are committed to fair recruitment and compliant workplace practices, consistent with the standards expected under Canada's Temporary Foreign Worker Program.
